The newly sworn-in Atkinson Village Council highlights its three-year developmental plan
The extension and renovation of the Big River Blow Hole Road and the construction of a tourism centre at the site as well as the development of the youth are some of the key priority areas that the newly sworn-in Atkinson Village Council will be giving the much needed attention during their three year stint.
Chairman of the Atkinson Village Council, Anton Laville made the announcement while addressing the Fifthteenth Inaugural Meeting of the Atkinson Village Council at the Atkinson Primary School on Monday March 21st, 2011.
While delivering his maiden speech, Laville who was re-elected unopposed did not only thank his fellow villagers and councilors but the Government of Dominica for their invaluable assistance rendered towards the development of the community of Atkinson.
He says as Chairman, he has a vision for the village, one that was stimulated by engaging in continuous and constant dialogue with the residents of Atkinson.
Parliamentary Representative for the area, Honourable Ashton Graneau pledged not just the government’s but the Carib Council’s commitment to work together with the newly sworn-in village council in transforming their dreams into reality.
Prime Minister of Dominica, Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit advised the villagers that they should not solely depend on those who have been elected to advance the development of the community, but they too should play an active role in the developmental process.
He says apart from the many projects that were mentioned by the Chairman, it is government’s intention to place emphasis on the housing needs of the villagers in the community of Atkinson.
