Thirty Individuals better Equipped for Disasters
Subsequent to a week-long training, thirty individuals from various communities are more prepared for respond disaster response situations.
The objective of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) was to cultivate a cadre of volunteers, who were competent in supporting the programme.
The volunteers were presented with their certificates at a graduation ceremony at the Office of Disaster Management on Friday September 13, 2012.
Permanent Secretary, in the Ministry of National Security, Mr. Steve Hyacinth, informed the graduates that emergency response on the ground, is critical to ensuring safety at a community level.
Meanwhile, Mr. Don Corriette, Director of the Office of Disaster Management urged the participants to help strengthen the resilience and response at a community level.
In addition, members also received training on Introduction to Disaster Services, Mass Care, Shelter and Operations as well as Shelter Simulations
The CERT was funded by CIMA, CIDA, UK Aid from DFRID and AUS AID. The implementing agencies were CDEMA, UNDP, CIMH and the ODM.
