Tip of the Day: How to Take Breaks at Work
Block out 2 to 5 minutes to move around between every hour to 90 minutes of work.
Working on a computer can distort your perception of time, so use your cell phone, email calendar or a kitchen timer to ensure you take the breaks.
Leave your work area when you take a break.
Do not sit at a desk and check your email or social media sites.
Standing up and walking around increases circulation to the muscles, which can improve your comfort level throughout the day.
Evaluate your need for exercise. If you are lacking the 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise per day that doctors recommend, then walking outside or around the office in 5, 10 or 30 minute intervals can help your heart as well as your productivity.
