Today in History: In 1901, Executive Director of the NAACP Roy Wilkins was Born

Mr. Wilkins was a prominent civil rights activist in the United States from the 1930s to the 1970s.

Wilkins graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in sociology in 1923.

After graudation, Wilkins worked as a journalist at The Minnesota Daily and became editor of St. Paul Appeal, an African-American newspaper.

His most notable role was in his leadership of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
