Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Dominica
At 5 p.m., the center of Tropical Depression Seven was located near latitude 13.7 north, longitude 51.9 west or about 630 miles east southeast of Dominica. The depression is moving toward the west near 24 mph or 39 km/h and this general motion is expected to continue for the next 48 hours.
Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph or 55 km/h with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours. The depression could become a tropical storm before reaching the Lesser Antilles, as a result a tropical storm watch has been issued for Dominica.
Interests in Dominica and the rest of the Windward Islands should monitor the progress of this system as it is expected to approach the Lesser Antilles by Saturday into Sunday. Regardless of development, this system is expected to bring significant rainfall to the island with gusty winds and swells peaking up to 12 feet by Sunday.
