UWP Prefers Hydro Energy over Geothermal Energy
The United Workers Party’s Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau Central Constituency Mr. Norris Prevost, says the UWP is committed to providing cheaper energy costs for Dominicans but prefers to do so utilizing hydro energy over geothermal energy.
There are certain aspects of risks that need to be considered, he said.
“We know our hydro, we have experience in hydro, we have had hydro in Dominica for more than 40 years and at this very moment hydro supplies forty (40) percent of our electricity. We have the potential to expand hydro in various parts of Dominica.”
He noted, the technology for hydro development has modernized.
Mr. Prevost says, they do not oppose geothermal energy, but is pleading with the Labour Party Government to get it done the right way, as all precautionary measures must be observed to safe guard the residents of the Roseau Valley and environs.
He reiterated that one of the fastest ways to reduce our energy costs is by expanding our hydro plants.
Mr. Prevost added, a combination of these various forms of energy production is what Dominica needs.
