UWP Wants Cancellation of Charles Jong’s Contract by Government
The Parliamentary Opposition United Workers Party (UWP)is calling for the cancellation of a contract, awarded to Government Consultant, Mr. Charles Jong by the Government of Dominica.
Mr. Jong, who is a native of St. Kitts, entered into a one year contract from November 1st 2013 to October 31st 2014 for public relations consultation and information management services at the rate of $96,000.00.
The issue concerning Mr. Jong has surfaced in the media; however, the Government has remained silent on the details of his employment.
Leader of the Opposition United Workers Party, Mr. Hector John said, before Mr. Jong could be given any contract on behalf of the Government of Dominica, there must be a tendering process advertised on the television, especially as we have trained individuals on Island who can carry out the work he is reported to be doing.
According to him, Section 82:2 of the standing orders of the House of Assembly was violated, when Mr. Jong had a camera filming proceedings of the recently held parliament session.
Mr. John, who described consultant as a political missionary, revealed that on March 6th 2014, Mr. Jong threatened him on social networking website Facebook saying that he is going to be the Party Leader’s worst nightmare.
He is of the view that, the Office of the Opposition needs to be respected and for Mr. Jong to threaten him, indicates that he is not working for or on behalf of the Government of Dominica but for the Dominica Labour Party.
He called on Ambassador Steve Ferrol, who signed the contract on behalf of the Government of Dominica, to make the contract null and void in the interest of the people.
The Opposition Leader stated, the UWP will exhaust every legal facility at its disposal to ensure that justice is served in the interest of the public.
Efforts to contact Ambassador Steve Ferrol for comment proved futile, however SAT TV will provide an update as soon as more information becomes available.
