Waitukubuli National Trail Management Unit to Observe World Environment Day

footage (12)The Waitukubuli National Trail Management Unit (WNTMU) will on Thursday June 5th observe World Environment Day (WED) celebrated under the theme “Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level” – a theme that aims to raise awareness about the impact of climate change on Small Islands States “SIDS” around the world.

Island nations around the world are particularly vulnerable to climate change, natural disasters and rising seas, however, there is much to be learned from these countries, which have overcome a number of environmental problems with limited resources.

Dominica is such a country which boasts over sixty percent forest coverage.

For the 3rd consecutive year, the WNTMU, the Forestry, Wildlife and Parks Division in partnership with the Global Environmental Facility (GEF)/Small Grants  National Programme and D-Smart Farm  will  undertake its school outreach,  environment  and  education programme  in observance of World  Environment  Day.

This year the partners will use the opportunity to integrate the issue of Climate Change in the sensitization of approximately ninety students and eight teachers who will participate in WED activities at the Waitukubuli National Trail Research and Interpretation Facility at Pont Casse.
