Former West Indies batsman Wavell Hinds

Former West Indies batsman Wavell Hinds has been given a full term as president of the West Indies Players Association (WIPA).

At the Annual General Meeting of the players body at the Capital Plaza Hotel in Jamaica on Saturday, Hinds was elected unopposed, as was the rest of the executive.

Hinds acted as interim president for nine months last year after the incumbent Dinanath Ramnarine stepped down.

He has been a member of WIPA’s Executive since 2002, serving as treasurer for four years, and vice-president for six years under Ramnarine.

Hinds said that he was happy to serve again and is deeply committed to the work which WIPA has been doing on behalf of its members.

The president said that 2013, “will be a challenging year for WIPA and its members as we continue to try and build a partnership type environment with the WICB.

The new WIPA executive reads: President: Wavell Hinds, Vice-President: Patterson Thompson, Treasurer: Nixon McLean, Secretary: Wayne Lewis, Assistant Secretary: Samuel Badree.
