Meanwhile, Speaking at the launch, Tourism Minister Honourable Ian Douglas highlighted that Dominica continues to hold “pride of place” on the world stage with the annual music festival.

According to Douglas it is the biggest and most important event that contributes to the Tourism industry.

“The Government fully recognizes the value of the festival and the role it plays in branding the destination, generating foreign exchange and the employment it creates to the many sub sectors and businesses across the island”, the Minister said.

Festival generates about 5000 tourism arrivals each year and contributes millions in foreign exchange, supporting many other vital sectors of the national economy, he added.

Director of Tourism, Colin Piper added that to date the Committee has hosted over two hundred and seventy artistes and band performances.

“I dare say that we have single-handedly revived the careers of certain groups and artistes. This World Creole Music Festival was a phenomenon that burst on the scene and energized the creole speaking world,” Piper said.

The event, by platinum sponsor, Digicel for the ninth consecutive year will be held from October 24 to the 26 at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.
