Windward Islands Second victory

West Indies cricket team

The Windward Islands picked up their second victory in as many outings, in the 2013 West Indies Cricket Board Regional four day tournament.

After defeating the Combine Campuses and Colleges in their opening encounter of the tournament last week, the Windward Islands defeated Trinidad and Tobago by ten wickets inside three days at the Arnos Vale playing field in St. Vincent.

Trinidad and Tobago batted first and was bowled out for 179, while Jason Mohammed top scored with 57.

Bowing for the Windward Islands, Kenroy Peters took three for 28, while Liam Sebastien and Delorn Johnson finished with two for 21 and two for 32 respectively.

In reply, the Windward Islands scored 260 all out.

Dominican Tyron Theophille scored 70, and Dalton Polius added an unbeaten 32.

Windward Island collected 12 points from the encounter to push them to a maximum 24 points from two games.

West Indies selectors have rested Captain Darren Sammy for the upcoming One-Day International series against Zimbabwe, which bowls off later this month.

The all-rounder, who leads West Indies in every format of the game, has been granted time off for the one-day series only and will be replaced at the helm by seasoned all-rounder Dwayne Bravo.

Sammy has played every game for the regional side for the last two years, and is coming off a disappointing tour of Australia, where West Indies suffered a 5-0 drubbing in the one-day series.

There will also be no Chris Gayle for the entire ODI series after the leading opener asked to be excused from selection.

All three ODIs will be played at the National Stadium in Grenada from February 22nd-26th.
