Youth Fair Organized To Strengthen Community Spirit

A group of Dominicans have collaborated, under the guidance of the international Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), to organize a youth fair, with the aim of bringing families together and strengthening community ties in the village of Newtown.

The youth fair is scheduled to take place on Saturday August 24th, from 9:00am to 4:00pm at the Newtown Savannah.

Ms. Samuel said the day’s event will be separated into two segments, the morning segment, which will entail live entertainment from upcoming artistes, drama groups and speeches from different youth groups organized on island, including the National Youth Council and the Junior Achievers, these events will continue until 12:30 pm.

At the end of the morning session, there will be traditional games, cooking on open fire, creating a traditional setting where the youth will be able to have clean and enjoyable fun.Youth Fair 2013 fin

Glenda Samuel, one of the organizers is urging the public, more importantly the youth to participate.

According to Ms. Samuel the committee intends to show the youth that they can engage in positive activities that will help them to secure safer and better communities.

The event is the first of its kind and the organizers hope to make it an annual one.

Ms. Samuel said the event is not restricted to only people from Newtown and environs, but is open to the entire country.

The fair was organized to coincide with International Youth Day, which was observed on August 12th under the theme, “youth migration moving development forward”.
